A Turkish military helicopter has been ousted by Kurdish People's Units fighters near the town of Africa in northern Syria, Turkey's president, Recep Tayip Erdogan, said today.
“A helicopter of ours has actually crashed”, Erdogan said, speaking to members of his party, AKP in Istanbul and adding that “we may have lost the helicopter, but they will pay the price for this”.
Erdogan has not mentioned any victims, nor has he provided more detailed information on the incident.
The helicopter crash has been confirmed separately by YPG's spokesman in Africa, Mustafa Bali.
This is the first Turkish butterfly to have officially been confirmed to have crashed over Syria during the civil war in this country, which began nearly seven years ago.
