During a heated debate with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, Trump said it would be “krenanar” to close government services on border security.
If lawmakers cannot agree to a federal budget, financing for several departments will be completed late next week.
Trump has sought to include $5 billion in the border security agreement.
But Senator Schumer and Congressman Pelosi said they had agreed to extend funds to the Department of Homeland Security at current 1.3 billion levels by September 30th 2019.
Trump opened the meeting in the Oval Office calling it a big <x0nder” to introduce Schumer and Pelosi at the first meeting since the Democrats took control of the House of Representatives in the mid-November elections.
But the meeting soon turned into opposition since Pellos and Schumer argued that the republican-controlled Congress could pass legislation before funding for some agencies expired on December 21st.
The president claimed it could only pass if he met his demands for more funds for proposed border walls along the southern US border.
