Speaking at Kennedy's space centre, Vice President Pence said that a new era of American national security begins today”.
The goal is to establish a command that supervises and organises space operations, speed up technical advances and find more effective ways to protect American assets in space and others.
The movement comes after increasing concerns that China and Russia are working to destroy American satellites.
