Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, in his last-year speech in the Assembly, has talked about the chronology of the events of the year we are leaving behind, with particular emphasis on dialogue with Serbia.
Here are some of Thaci's statements:
With Serbia we have a century of hostility. Serbia's state has killed about 13 thousand civilians in Kosovo. About 20,000 women in Kosovo have been violated. With thousands missing who are not yet known for their fate and unfortunately still none of Serbia's shots and that aggressive device has been punished.
But it is time to look to the future, to make peace with Serbia, so there will never again be war, massacres and experiences we have had in the past.
Therefore, I welcome the establishment of the negotiating team and the start of work on reaching agreement with Serbia.
This team has its obligations and will have my full support.
The agreement with Serbia should be final, reached with EU mediation and full US support.
It will bring Kosovo recognition from Serbia and membership in the UN.
The two letters reached in my office this month show we're on the right track.
Macron's letter commends Kosovo for peace and stability. The most important thing is the letter of President Trump, the most powerful state in the world and the country's friendland.
We are grateful that in his letter, President Trump defines Kosovo as a peace partner.
It says: "I encourage you and Kosovo leaders to use this unique moment to speak out in a single voice during the negotiation process.
So we have the support of the most powerful state in the world, but should we turn our possession into action?
Losing this case, as President Trump put it, would be a tragic setback behind”
