So said Mitrovica Chairman Agim Bahtiri during the media conference held today, behind the table with citizens about launching petition procedures for the city's unification.
He said that from Monday citizens will begin signing a petition to the Parliament, for abolishing the decision by 2007, in order to strengthen the Mitrovica Municipal Assembly decision of November 30th for a united Mitrovica with territory.
Bahtiri wrongly called Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj's opinion that this requirement is illegal.
As for the reaction of Serbian citizens in the north about this initiative, Bahtiri stressed that they too would join this petition, because as he put it, they are tired of certain groups and want municipal services as efficient as possible.
We, together with citizens today, have made the decision that Monday the petition to abolish the decision to split Mitrovica and be a common Mitrovica of citizens indiscriminately. Looking at the situation in the north, we are well aware that it could be an approach to various clashes in Brussels as the city of Mitrovica, we have taken the decision to start petitioning all the citizens of Mitrovica to address the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo for abolishing the decision made in 2007 and to strengthen the previous decision of the Mitrovica Municipal Assembly, such as Mitrovica in common with the territory that used to be”, he said.
“Haradinaj is my friend, and if he has received on the grounds that we have no right to address Kosovo institutions, then it is wrong. We have the right that as a municipal organ, we address every institution with our demands, but unfortunately, the Ministry of Local Power has declared it invalid because the minister is a Serb and has done so for political reasons. Now we have the right to petition Kosovo's Parliament directly and you will see that this initiative will be feasible. I know what I'm talking about, I know what I'm looking for, and this is gonna be done. I think this will be supported as for further steps we will decide after we get the answer to”, Bahtiri said.
“I think that Serbian citizens are tired of certain groups and are waiting as soon as they are free from the influence of these groups and once and for all institutional work starts giving services to all citizens indiscriminately. I hope that such a signature will be made by them”, Bahtiri said.
