Penn appeared in front of the Saudi Arabia consulate in Istanbul with a team of ten, including his bodyguards. The media broadcast a video showing Penn in a black suit talking to a cameraman in front of the Turkish police fence that prevents entry into the consulate.

It is unknown whether the 58-year-old winner of two Oscar awards has data on the elimination of Saudi journalist, but he is known for the views and initiatives other countries consider controversial.

Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, an open critic of Saudi Arabia's crown prince, was killed after entering the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on 2 October. He went to search for marriage documents with a Turkish citizen. The body of 59-year-old has not yet been found, despite the study of consulates and other countries.

The murder of journalist at “Washington Post” prompted the international community's dissatisfaction. The Saudi government has offered various clarifications regarding the murder, denying it initially, while later said the murder was accidental and eventually referred to it as an out-of-command operation. All allegations cast mainly by Sabba senators, according to a recent report CIA, fall upon the Crown Prince.
