Letafete Latifi, director of the Kosovo Hydrometeorological Institute (IHK), has indicated that in addition to Pristina, even in other Kosovo cities there are overstepping the allowed values of air pollution.
Latifi, in an interview for Telegrafi, said overcoming allowed values this year also has in Drenas, Han of Elez, Gjilan.
She made it known that this year exceeded the allowed air quality values at Han's Elez has been due to highway work.
She said the IHK legal obligation has air quality monitoring and state information.
In this respect we don't have anything. Air monitoring with automatic systems started in 2009 and we have constantly informed”, she said.
According to her, since 2012, the first report on the situation since 2010-2012 has been released is constantly monitoring and reporting the public.
We had two three stations, we already have 11. Investments have increased in maintenance and service of monitoring stations”, Latifi said.
According to the IHK director, stations are functional and reporting is real time.
Latifi stressed that although reports are real time, the web site has not yet been processed enough to be accessible to the public.
She said that to improve the quality of the air, actions must be interrelated to all the actors.
“Other ministries should take their duties over air quality protection. The concrete cases are the Ministry of Transport, which should increase its capacity in control of emissions from” vehicles, she said.
She said that although measures have been taken, Kosovo's government should take air quality priority as well.
The emergency action plan was released for the first time in 2016. It has emerged in the Parliament and a plan of measures has been proposed. Then, in 2017, the current government's action plan for short- and medium-term measures has emerged... Measures that have been taken or envisioned in the action plan must be implemented by various actingists”, she said.
Latifi has said the institute, along with the Ministry of Environment and other institutions, is working closely on improving the air situation.
According to her, the results of the measures taken, such as the co-generation project, are expected to be seen later.
