Local product sale increased after tax on Serbia

Days earlier, the Kosovo government has increased the tax on Serbian and Bosnian goods from 10% to 100%. The move came as a consequence of Serbia's continued lobby against Kosovo, especially after its non-membership in Interpol. Executive Director of the Astrit Panja Producer Club, in an interview for Online Economics, said [...]
Kosovo producers have backed the measures taken by the Government of Kosovo towards Bosnia and Serbia, and we believe there are economic reasons behind even political reasons to take these measures because Kosovo producers are not treated the same as Bosnian or Serbian producers are treated in Kosovo. We have tried to export to those two countries, we have many difficulties, now we believe that new conditions have been created in the Kosovo market where the vacuum created by the lack of Serbian products can be covered by local products. We can no longer cover grain, but with other products we can do it. We believe the second and third shifts in our factories will be added. But we always have to look for alternative”, he said.
Panja said that the effect of this tax may be felt on holiday end of the year, as there are still reserves of products from these two countries.
“Effect cannot be seen because there have been many reserves of products from Serbia that are still being consumed, I believe that if the measure continues especially during the holidays where product consumption is very high then there will be the effects of para”, Panja added.
The owner of the company “Frutex”, Shaqir Palushi, said that with the government's deployment of the move 100% is increasing domestic product consumption as well as consumer awareness to consume local products.
The last “Masa received from the Government for Product Tax from Serbia after positive impact because the consumption of products produced in Kosovo is increasing, and I think culture and consumer awareness have also increased for the importance and weight of products produced in Kosovo. For our products, it hasn't been very competitive products coming from Serbia, but still it has influenced the raising of citizens' awareness of the consumption of products produced in Kosovo is increasing sales of products, and we expect the days and months to continue to have continued growth of course we expect greater growth in exports. I think Serbia's enormous import from a country that has done so much and continues to do against Kosovo I think it deserves such a move because it has consistently lobbied and negatively affected the Kosovo issue”, he said, Online Economy.
Astrit Berisha, owner of the company “Patica”, said he will give positive results in favour of local production, meanwhile, called for producers not to raise prices.
“This measure is set a few days ago is not that there is a history of course in the future that will reflect and produce positive results in favour of local production. I think that's an appropriate measure, but the best measure would be consumers, they should give the seal should also support local production and support our friends' products. The effect of the 100% mass has begun. Let no one fear that Kosovo will face collapse from this tax, I call for prices not to rise, and this will be our appeal and it has been our declaration. As far as we're going to be able to stabilize, there's obviously other ways that we as a company are starting to find other resources, for some of the materials we get in Serbia. Serbia has been a little closer free, now we're taking them elsewhere. We regret that Serbia's market for us has always been difficultly banned, we have broken into the market in Serbia with our products, but that market is not safe, he said.
Despite reactions from Belgrade, even threatening to interrupt dialogue, Ramush Haradinaj continues to reiterate that this tax will last until Serbia recognises Kosovo.
