In the footnote to the 45th anniversary of Law Day, the lawyer in Kosovo society was said to be a very important link to the justice system.
Work and professionalism were said to have played an important role and is involved in all social instances.
Invited to the anniversary ceremony was former President Atifete Jahjaga, who said she should remember that the lawyer's profession is a profession of honor.
“The survivors of sexual violence during the Kosovo war need our help. Helping people who believe in righteousness and who have the will to do their utmost to bring about justice. Because of the legal restrictions Kosovo has, not being part of any international courts, we currently have no chance to sue Serbia for the crime its former regime committed over our civilian population during the 1998-1999 war. That doesn't mean we have to wait. The time has come, and we have been delayed to join forces in the legal support of these victims, and we have a moral and legal obligation to support the thousands of women and men who were sexually violated during the war, with their very subliable request, the one for justice, to ask you to join this kause”, she said.
While Osman Havolli, chairman of the Kosovo Bar Council, spoke of the role of lawyers in Kosovo society.
The trip of Kosovo's lawyer was not an easy one. The various grass and challenges were carried by previous mayors along with lawyers who contributed to the empowerment of the lawyer and the state-building of the Republic of Kosovo. This uncomfortable task of theirs will serve great inspiration to us, to guide the way to the more powerful promotion of professionalism. Now the Oda of Kosovo Lawyers has 910 lawyers exercising the profession in seven regions. The role of Kosovo's lawyer is undeniable in establishing professional capacities”, he said.
Enver Peci, who heads the Supreme Court of Kosovo, indicated that they are currently focused on unifying punishment policy in Kosovo.
“As the Supreme Court in addition to establishing cases that the law provides, we have also worked on unifying judicial practice and giving legal and professional opinion of local justice. Currently, we are focused on unifying the penal policy in Kosovo, as judicial practice has proved that it is not unique in the pronunciation of sentences, and that apart from violating human rights has also affected reducing public confidence in the judiciary”, he said.
He acknowledged that the justice system needs to be strengthened more.
While Kosovo Judiciary Council leader Nehat Idrizi, speaking of increasing the number of judges, said he hoped it would positively influence the work of the subjects, which are in large numbers in the courts.
We're at the conclusion of the 37 judges' decree process, we've sent the files to the president, in question are days, when these judges will be decreed, and six days ago we've announced the new 27-judge competition, so we plan 155 new judges to start the job and take it out of our jar that we have after a few judges and lots of subjects. I hope in the future we will not face this problem”, he said.
At the Kosovo Lawyers' Oda ceremony, it was said this is a special day in which to remember that the Kosovo lawyer dates back to the start of World War II, when the first Albanian lawyer, Sokol Dobroshi, was registered.
