For procrastination of the works, as well as for delay in paying the means for work done earlier this year, the US-Turkish consortium “Bechtel & Enka” had penalised Kosovo Government by 53m euros. But now the penalty subject of Kosovo's government can be this consortium itself due to delays in the construction of the highway connecting Pristina and Skopje.
Long ago, referring to the contract signed by the consortium in question, but also by the Ministry of Infrastructure, they had declared that by December 31st of this year the highway in question would be ready for circulation. But now, when we have approached the end of the year, such an act seems to be impossible.
Contacted by the newspaper “Voice”, Infrastructure Minister Pal Lekaj has not ruled out the possibility of a penalty for “Bechtel & Enka”. There are mutual actions in any agreement or contract, so we will act in harmony with the situation that will be presented to us”, Minister Lekaj told the newspaper “Zeri”.
