Eight current and other member states to be part of the UN Security Council next year have come together to support Kosovo's right to have an army.
The declaration has been signed by Great Britain, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden. It says it is the right of Kosovo to establish its army, KTV reports.
“Initiation of the process of transforming the Kosovo Security Force is Kosovo's sovereign right. We have in mind Kosovo's commitment to gradual transformation of the security force, in full co-ordination with NATO and its partners. We call on Kosovo to make the KSF transition in the next 10 years transparent and inclusively, to include communities, and we call on it not to influence the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade. We also call for preserving the agreement with KFOR on the operation of KSF in the north”, said the joint communiqué.
It says that both sides should show restraint and reduce tensions to create conditions for quick continuation of dialogue with EU mediation.
The achievement of an agreement addressing all open issues should remain a priority”, says the end.
