The Information Society Agency (ASHI) through a media communique has indicated that despite a massive cyber attack that has been made to the electronic addresses of Kosovo institutions on the part of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina has failed to avenge any official address.
Cameron Gashi, general director of the ASHI, says that so far the attack has not affected any electronic system of institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, nor any embassy address, nor diplomatic officials broadcast Koha.net.
“Let's suggest that all information that is different is unindicted and inaccurate information, because the only competent authority on legal and professional responsibility for management with state infrastructure is the Information Society Agency that functions under the Public Administration Ministry”, Gashi said, through a communiqué.
He further provided detailed information about the cyberattack on the part of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The 6,12,2018 hours around 10:00 we've faced a massive cyberattack that has continued until 6:00 p.m., and lower-level attacks have also surfaced during the day. The attack has been highly organised as the source of the attack comes from domains and IPs, which are registered in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina”, Gashi says. “The attack has targeted official E-mail communications of Kosovo institutions, mainly at the address of diplomatic officials”.
He adds that the aim of this attack appears to have efforts to enable the official communication of Kosovo institutions through official E-mail.
“Information Society Agency - A SHI, thanks to the expert's commitment within this Agency, has managed to locate and block this attack without causing damage or changing any data. In this case, all necessary measures have been taken with the aim of operating and failing to affect official E - mail services. In this case we confirm that no official electronic address has been prevented from functioning, nor has it been hacked, as stated in some media”, he added.
In the communiqué further, Gashi points out, “points to the attention that until now official Electronic Post and ERK portals that are hosted (replaced) at the State Data Centre are not Activated, and it is not about thousands of them, as interpreted in the media. The attack was the type. DDOS, (attack dedicated to service defunction)”.
According to him, the Information Society Agency - A SHI under the human and technical capacities it possesses is engaged and has successfully succeeded in preventing possible consequences from this attack, even in other cases.
“We are in co-ordination with the Department for Cyber Crimes in the Kosovo Police and all the country's security bodies to convey all developments and preserve the stability of electronic systems”, Gashi has said.
