The certificate of these companies with “Organic Certificate” is made today by the Swiss Development and Co-operation Agency's “Project, which is implemented by the Swisscontact.
During the ceremony, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development Mevludin Krasniqi has estimated that this process of possessing these companies is an important step in meeting common goals for developing and advancing the organic agriculture sector. It has shown that the MBPZHR, through direct payments of 500 euros per hectares, supports the cultivated surfaces of organic products.
The MBPZHR's strategic objective of “is to ensure increased amount and quality of organic production. This is not only about generating efficiency but also guaranteeing increased quality of living for consumers. On the other hand, organic production is seen as an advantage of increased export potential in the region and in the EU countries, thus enabling increased competitiveness of Kosovo products, as well as the impact on reducing import and export growth”, Deputy Minister Krasniqi said, adding that this year they are supporting the sector jointly with USAID through the “project for supporting the agricultural development programme and rural opportunities in Kosovo, in particular, the Ziir of the Tree Values and the chain of herbs and spices.
By contrast, according to statistics in 2017 across Kosovo's entire territory, there were 170 hectares cultivated with scented herbs, as well as over 373,000 hectares of certified areas for collecting herbs and spices and wild fruits. At the same time, more than 40 certified companies and centers are estimated to be, as well as over 3,200 collectors in the country, providing income from the collection of fragrant herbs as well as wild fruit and mushrooms. The export of these products is estimated to become half processed, where 95 percent of all of its production goes to export, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and so on.
