Zaev: Gruevski fled as a coward, but to extradite to Macedonia

Zaev has expressed confidence that Nikola Gruevski will eventually return to Macedonia where he must serve the sentence for the work for which he was sentenced by the Court, as well as other acts that are in court procedure.

“We have issued international arrest warrants, demand that Nikola Gruevski be extradited and returned to Macedonia”, Zaev has said.

During Tuesday, former Macedonia Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski said he is in Hungary, where he has sought political asylum.

Gruevski in Macedonia is wanted by police to serve a two-year prison sentence for abuse of official office.

Macedonia's prime minister, Zoran Zaev, said Hungary as a member of the European Bashim, must not allow international agreements to be violated and that as a member of the European family, “should not protect a criminal who has caused damage to the state and the citizens of Macedonia”.

“> It is illegal for a European Union member state not to respect justice rule”, Zaev has said expressing his belief that “Hungary will act in accordance with the provisions of international law and will extradite Gruevski to Macedonia to suffer the sentence handed down by court”

Macedonia's prime minister, he said Gruevski has left Macedonia, fleeing responsibility and, according to him, is afraid to face justice.

“What a coward is who all along said he would go to jail, and that regardless of what would happen he is willing to go to jail for Macedonia, and that he is willing to go to jail so that the others don't go. But when the time came for him to respond to the organs of justice, he fled as a coward”. This only proves that he (Gruevski) feels guilty for what is charged”, Macedonia's prime minister, Zoran Zaev, has stressed.

File officials say the European Union faces a huge challenge as soon as possible to hand over Gruevski to Macedonia's justice bodies because Hungary as a country where it is sheltered is part of the EU.

While Hungary itself is a member state of the European Union, it should in no way allow a person who has misused official office and is not in question of political issues to receive political asylum”.

“With Gruevski's case, it proves that justice has not only been overturned, but eventually buried, and this causes citizens not to trust the justice system”, says Union Selmani, the lawyer.

Otherwise, in early hours Wednesday morning, former Transport Minister Mile Janakievski has been arrested in Macedonia, as well as former Government Secretary General Kiril Bozinovski, who held those positions when the opposition party V. MRO DPMNE has been in power.

Former Prime Minister Mile Janakievski and Kiril Bozinovski are accused of several works that are continuing the judicial process together with former Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski.

Their arrest comes after former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski's escape from Macedonia. (REL)
