The rapporteur for Kosovo in the European Parliament, Igor Sholtes, has acknowledged that some European Union member states have been puzzled about lifting visas for Kosovo, but, according to him, the visa issue does not need to pass to the EU Council of Ministers with absolute majority of votes.
These comments have been made during an interview with the newspaper “Voice”, adding that he has suggested to Kosovo Minister for European Integration, Gift Hoxha, to meet with state ministers who are reluctant to vote in favour of the visa-free regime, to convince them that Kosovars deserve to travel freely to the EU.
“I have also advised ministers from Kosovo to work closely with the embassies and with the ministries of those countries and to try to influence the final decision of representatives of member states”, the Sholtes Eurodeput says, among other things.
Slovenian politician says the three-year visa liberalisation of the Demarket approval with Montenegro in the Kosovo Parliament has extended the visa liberalisation process for the country, though he hopes visa liberalisation will occur by the end of this European Parliament mandate.
The European Parliament elections will be held in May 2019.
If for nothing else, this would be a fair decision to be made”, it has managed Sholtes.
During this interview he has spoken even about President Hashim Thaci's idea of exchanging territories with Serbia, saying that such a thing cannot be the target of the Western Balkan region.
