After establishing a 100 per cent tax on products imported from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, business representatives ask Kosovo authorities to subsidise local producers in order to increase production.
For Kosovo to achieve a more stable and empowered production sector, they seek more favourable fiscal policies for businesses.
The chairman of the Kosovo Chamber of Economics, Berat Rukiqi, tells Radio Free Europe that in addition to subsidies for the production sector, a long-term strategy dealing with production economic policies is needed.
Kosovo needs policies that deal with what can be replaced by import and on the other hand, which products we can develop as competitive products in our market, but also in other markets. This has been missing because there has been no consistent approach to supporting the competitiveness of local products. We've had many times the ad- hoc measures that had positive effects, but even negatives, but there hasn't been a harmonised policy”, Rukiqi points out.
