“Hungarian secret services have had their approach in planning the escape, Gruevski was prime minister of Macedonia until 2016, while this month he was sentenced to two years in prison before he fled to Budapest”, writes “Politco”.
The Hungarian government spokesman failed to respond to “Politco” in question whether intelligence service was involved in the former Macedonian prime minister's escape operation.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is Nikola Gruevski's old ally. Orban has publicly defended the decision to extend asylum to Gruevski, saying complicated political “games are developing in Macedonia “- writes “Politico”.
Earlier, the US State Department has voiced concerns about Gruevski's decision to escape in order to avoid his two-year prison sentence in Macedonia, said the paper “Politico”.
