In this case, OSCE Ambassador Jan Braathu said Kosovo is a small country to have such a large number of violence, praising the role of the media in its fight.
For domestic violence, we learned from the media, if you hadn't reported it, maybe O The SEU would know, but people in Kosovo should know and react, so the media have a very important role. We in the OSCE want to support you to report on these very difficult cases. 1128 cases have been reported to the Kosovo Police for domestic violence, and this is a large number for such a small country as Kosovo”, Braahu said.
While, in her address, Kosovo Journalists Association Chairman Gentiana Begoli said O The SEU has always been contributing to the media, to help report domestic violence and not alone.
“One of the fields where O The SB has always been a contributing and irreplaceable supporter is the development of free media and freedom of expression, as well as promoting rights and gender equality in general, with particular emphasis on engagement and fighting domestic violence. As a result of this work and a very important contribution to us we are holding today even this focus worker whose role is media in reporting domestic violence”, she said.
On the other hand, the head of the Association of Serbian Journalists in Kosovo, Budimir Nikic, spoke of the workshop his organisation has held in Gracanica for Serbian community journalists and the importance of reporting domestic violence.
Also presented at this table were the journalist's manual “The report on domestic violence”, published by the OSCE, with congrat Ambassador Braathu expressing satisfaction that under the 16 days of domestic anti-violence activities, this guide is being introduced, which, according to him, will come to the aid of all journalists who, through their work, can consult society in preventing this phenomenon.
