It is a black day in April 2017. Billy Monger takes his car after signaling the lights. He's done it before. He knows that once the race's under way, there's no time for nerves he needs to stay focused, broadcast Periscope.

There was another car in front of him while they fought for position. Speed reached 100 km/h.

It was two weeks before his 18th birthday, but he was more excited about this race than he would reach adulthood. In the race, he is known as Billy Whiz a new driver with great potential.

He was racing in the British Formium Championship 4 at Donington Park one of the most famous circuits of Great Britain.

The F4 is the first step for any young driver like Billy, who dreams of driving in Formula 1 .

The notorious race began, with Billy trying to gain position.

Suddenly, in a corner, two cars in front of Billy pull out of the street, seeing a third, solid car on the runway. It's too late; he doesn't have time to get out of the way. At 120 km/h, it hits hard the back of the car without moving.

The silence covers the whole floor. You know it's bad when a track is quiet”, recalls Jamie Caroline, Billy's closest friend.

Ever since he was 10, Billy had wanted to compete in F1 as his hero, Lewis Hamilton. Billy had spilled all his energy trying to make it a reality, but, suddenly, his dream seemed to end.

Three days later, Billy woke up and his surgeon, Dr Tony Westbowck, reports that he had both lost his legs, the Periscope broadcast.

The way Dr. Westbrok shows the case, it was like Billy actually comforted him in those moments. I remember he took my hand and he told me it's okay,”

The other doctor Tom Rowlands shows how hard it has been to see Billy upset, even though he was in the hospital. He was always smiling”, says Rowlands, followed by Periscope.

After two weeks at the hospital, Billy was able to go home. But adapting to his new life in a wheelchair was a challenge. I had lost out of my independence especially in those first weeks”, he says.

Billy's family also made the downstairss better than possible

Whatever happened, Billy knew he'd have to get back in the car. “Being in a racing car is probably where I feel more comfortable”, he says.

Just three months after his accident, Billy took his first chance of returning again after the wheel, driving a special van Cup car (which is a bit like a Volkswagen Beatle) in Brands Hatch competition.

Are there any other ambitions beyond the engine? The answer is, actually, no. He's still only 19 years old, after all a fact that's easy to forget when you think about what he's accomplished.

A boy who lost his feet in a car accident and returned to those races to pursue his passion and dream, never giving up and believing all the time that he was off the track.

Now for Billy, the exciting story continues, so one day he can be on the track with his hero Hamilton. /Periscopi/
