Thaci, cousin of President Hashim Thaci, has talked for the first time about reports of the head of state's influence on his appointment.
KEK's director says his selection in this position is made on the basis of merits, not “from outside”.
The stake says it is from the “Thac”, the same tribe according to him, the current head of the government, Ramush Haradinaj.
My choice in this position is based on my merit, not on words or influences from the outside. Unwillingly, I am a citizen of the Republic of Kosovo, and the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo treats all citizens equally. It's not true exactly as media say, Thac tribe has many in Kosovo already with the right to say, and Ramushi don't mistake is of Thac”, in an interview for Online Economy.
Thaci says his position was taken because of the company's schooling and work done since 2007, and for any doubt, he even says that the British Embassy, which has participated in his selection but also members of civil society, could be questioned.
Kosovo is a small country where everyone knows or can get to know each other. And I as a citizen of the Republic of Kosovo, and as every citizen, the Constitution treats me equal as any citizen. For your information, I'm an Elektro graduate engineer, finished my university at the University of Tirana before the war, and I'm part of KEK since 2007”.
I'm an operational director, or technical, since 2011. Was it transparent or not interviews or the competition I suggest it's not a question for me, you could ask observers who were in that process, the British Embassy and civil society”.
I made a presentation before the board in the competition it was. I've presented some of my goals for the next five years; I have also seen the growth of revenues. As you know, Kosovo is the third country in Europe for coal reserves, and the fifth place in the world... I'll do my best to use those reserves. So KEK's revenues, I think, increase them, in addition to the production of electricity that we have primary work”, he said.
Thaci says KEK is the most profitable public company in Kosovo and currently has over 20m euros in profits and 4,800 workers.
Thaci came to that position after Arben Djukat's resignation. Initially, KEK had announced a competition for management director on 5 April. The competition was re-declared on June 1st, and for the third time, the competition was opened on August 9th. Following the usual procedures, Njazi Thaci assumed the manager's position late in October.
