Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman has announced his resignation to the conservative coalition government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyah.
He resigned in protest of the ceasefire at the Gaza Strip.
Publicising his decision, which goes into effect 48 hours before it is delivered in written form, Lieberman characterised yesterday's agreement with Palestinian Islamic group Hamas, achieved with Egypt's mediation, as “capitulation against terrorism”, Reuters reports.
Palestinian militant groups in the Gaza Strip have acknowledged yesterday a ceasefire with Egypt's mediation, aimed at ending the conflict with Israel.
Hamas and fewer armed groups have announced a ceasefire in a joint statement, the AP reported.
The deal will end the worst conflicts between Israel and Hamas since the war in 2014.
