The Irish Aviation Authority is investigating reports of bright lights and UFOs off the coast of southwestern Ireland.
It was 6:47 local time, Friday, November 9, when a British Airways pilot contacted Shannon's air traffic control. He wanted to know if there was military exercise in the area, since he saw something “moving very quickly”.
Air traffic control said there were no such exercises, the BBC reports.
The pilot, who flew from the Canadian town of Montreal to Heathrow, said there was a very bright “> and the object had come out along the left side of the plane before it “went rapidly north”.
She was wondering what it could be, but she said she didn't seem to be going for a crash.
Another pilot from a Virginia plane joined him and suggested that it could be a meteor or another object that entered the earth's atmosphere again.
He said he had “multiple targets following the same trajectory” and that they were very bright.
The pilot said he saw the <x0-lighted” on the right side, which rose rapidly.
One pilot said that the speed was <x0monic, was like Mach 2”, which is twice the speed of sound.
After reports by a small number of planes Friday 9 November of unusual air activity, The IAA has submitted a report”, Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) said.
This report will be investigated in the normal process of investigating confidential events”.
An airport spokesman said it would not be appropriate for the airport to comment, while the IAA investigation is continuing.
