Salome Zarabishvili won Georgia's presidential election, becoming the first woman in this country to head the country's first office.
With nearly all votes counted, the former diplomat has secured 59% of them, while its rival, Grigol Vashadze, 40%.
Zarabishvili has been supported by the ruling Georgian Dream party, while Vashadze has been the candidate of the united opposition.
Zarabishvili, 66, was born in France after her parents left Georgia in 1921 after her annexation by Soviet forces.
Zurich has said it favours balancing Georgia's relations with Russia and the West.
Georgia's new constitution is expected to go into effect and will make the president's role largely ceremonial.
