British Prime Minister Theresa May is facing resistance in England to keep the pact alive and to push it to the polls in the British Parliament, despite criticism from pro-Brexit politicians and representatives of Northern Ireland who want to preserve closer ties with the EU.
The “cannot be reached better pact than this”, Germany's Minister for European Affairs Michael Roth has said.
After more than two years since the British have voted to leave the EU, the two sides have agreed to an initial pact and are working on future ties.
Although the fate of this pact is unclear as to the British side, the EU is making preparations for a summit next Sunday on the issue.
A string of leaders have reiterated statements that, however, a pact on Brexit is better than any process that could be completed without agreement between the EU and Britain.
The agreement is better than the Brex without the pact”, Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean C.
“I think it's in the interest of the United Kingdom and the European Union for the agreement to become a reality”, he added.
In the June 23rd referendum in 2016, 17.4 million persons or 51.9 per cent of voters have supported the departure from the EU until another 16.1 million or 48.1 percent have voted against Brexit.
