The case of journalist Jamal Khashoggi has crashed France with Turkey. Denying equipment with investigative materials, official Paris has accused President Erdogan of political games. In her response, Ankara has nominated the comment of the irresponsible French side.
Turkey rejected France's accusations Monday that President Recep Tayip Erdoğan was playing political games in the case of slain journalist Jammal Khashoggi.
In her reaction, official Ankara accused the French side of trying to cover up the crime that took place on 2 October at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian questioned statements made last weekend by Erdogan that Turkey had given records on the murder of Kashogg to American, German, French and British governments.
“In my knowledge, France does not have any such material. Apparently, Erdogan is playing a political game”, Le Drian said. The statement prompted Ankara's exasperated reaction, which insisted that the Turkish state had equipped Paris with materials and named the statement of Le Drian unacceptable.
Our intelligence services shared information and audio recordings with the French on 24 October. It is pathetic to accuse our president of political games”, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavushoglu said. Turkey's diplomatic chief said he would not be surprised if tomorrow, France chose to deny Kashogg's murder, even though it was accepted by Saudi Arabia. I wonder what is behind the French Foreign Minister's statement. Perhaps they're trying to cover up crime”, Cavushoglu added. On Monday, Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canadian intelligence services had heard records of Kashogg's case. “We are discussing with our allies steps we must take against Saudi Arabia”, Trudeau said.
