Russia “is a far greater threat to Britain's national security than Islamic terrorist groups, such as the Islamic State (IS), the British Army chief said.
In an interview for the Daily Telegraph, General Mark Caleton-Smith said Britain and its allies “cannot be self-aware of the threat Russia poses to”.
Carleton-Smith said Russia is willing to use its force to expand its interests, while also making <x0-systemic efforts” to use the cyber and underwater military force.
British Army chief's comments come at a time of high tensions between the West and Russia, on a range of issues, including Moscow's aggression in Ukraine, allegations that he has intervened in the elections in the United States and Europe, massive cyber attacks at an international level, as well as poisoning of the former Russian agent and his daughter in Britain.
Russia today poses a far greater threat to our national security than the extremist Islamic threats”, as may come from Al-Qaeda or IS, Carleton Smith said in his first interview since becoming chief of Britain's army in June.
