The United States Ambassador to Serbia, Kyle Scott, said that the 100% tax Kosovo has imposed on donors from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina is “discrimination”. He has also commented on agreements reached between Albania and Kosovo today in Pec, saying America supports all agreements related to economic co-operation between countries, Periscopi writes.
Scott told reporters in Belgrade that what applies to the Albanian population in Kosovo should also be applied to Serbs and all ethnic minorities.
“I believe Kosovo should be multiethnic democratic state”, Scott said, Serbian media report.
Regarding pledges made Monday by Kosovo and Albania for the removal of taxes, Romang and customs unification, Scott said the US supports any activity leading to economic integration in the region.
The “all countries are facing the same problem, but they are not looking to the future anywhere. We support all economic co-operation efforts among the countries in order to draw as close as possible towards the EU”, he has said.
Last week, Kosovo has increased from 10% to 100% tax on all goods imported from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The decision has prompted fierce reactions of Serbs in Kosovo and authorities in Belgrade and Sarajevo, as well as calls from the European Union to remove this customs obligation.
