The main impact has been given by citizens from Kosovo, whose entrances fell by 16% in October, or about 150,000 people less than October of the year before.
The decline of citizens' entry from Kosovo coincides with the beginning of the Durres-Kukes Street taxation -- 5 euros for one direction, which after many debates began to apply in the second half of September.
Fatos Shala, a journalist in Kosovo, told the Monitor that in addition to individuals coming on vacation, the street tax is affecting businesses as well. He adds that according to sources from Kosovo customs, businesses have begun to hesitate to take their way to Albania. The tax on a road to a truck ranges from 16.2 euros to 22.5 euros.
Except for October, the influx of citizens' entry from Kosovo had been very high. For the 10 month, 1.9 million citizens from Kosovo have entered Albania, with a nearly 22% annual-based increase. October is the first month, when their flow rises so high.
