More than 1000 domestic violence cases for nine months

Naim Celaj, deputy justice minister, simultaneously national co-ordinator for protection from domestic violence, told Radio Free Europe that in Kosovo, according to the data he possesses, within 10 years, from this category of crimes, 34 cases of murder have occurred, where women have been victims.
The “Institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, in the continuation of their work, also have good co-ordination with institutions implementing laws and policies for preventing domestic violence”.
“Vision in the family in Kosovo is present and disturbing. Within a year, over a thousand cases of domestic violence are reported. This has led us as a society to increase commitments on how we can prevent such a bad phenomenon, with which the whole world faces”, Qeyle said.
Compared to decades, he points out, there is an advantage in Kosovo that links with reporting domestic violence, respectively.
The post-war “governments of the Republic of Kosovo have taken significant steps, where what is worthy of the hammer is the Constitution of Kosovo, which has inflated key acts that protect human rights”, Qelaj said.
Even the chief of the United Nations Development Programme for Kosovo, Ulrika Richardson, has said 35 percent of the world's women have experienced violence or have been discriminated against.
We see that the data is truly shocking. They're terrible first of all. We see that based on the World Health Organization it is 1 out of 3 females worldwide, regardless of where they live, in highly developed or underdeveloped countries, 1 out of 3 females or 35 percent have experienced the kinds of violence and sexual violence in particular”, she said.
Daut Hoxha, an information official at the Kosovo Police, said the number of family violence reports in the January-October 2018 period is 1128 cases.
Co-operation with other subjects as they are: The Victims' Protection and Support Unit, Social Work Centres, Medical Centres, various nongovernmental associations offering housing, etc.”, Hoxha said.
The arrest of suspected persons in such cases of domestic violence is done every time there are legal grounds and is simultaneously worked on collecting facts and evidence concerning criminal work, so that the suspect can receive the sentence deserved by the justice decision-making authorities, the” courts, respectively, Hoxha stressed.
Based on official data, last year alone, 962 cases of domestic violence were recorded, with women mainly being victims.
