About 100 women were present at Tehran Stadium to watch a friendly match between Iran and Bolivia.
This is seen by many as a clear step in the right direction in the fight for women's rights in this country. For 37 full years, no woman was allowed to enter the stadium, as the Islamic government had taken power and banned them from playing games at stadiums in the late 1970s.
The last time women were allowed to soccer stadiums in Iran was in 1981, and after this year they were forced to disguise themselves as men, risking arrest in order to watch soccer from the tribunes in their country.
According to state news agency I LNA, just one group of players ' families, had the privilege of watching the fight against Bolivia closely. They had the chance to see Iran defeat Bolivia 2-1 thanks to Alireza Yahankash and Mehdi Torabi's goals.
They were seen in the stands and broke the large barrier that has caused numerous complaints by associations, activists and governments for women's rights violations.
