The tribunal's chairman, Arta Rama-Hajriz, has estimated that this year has been a year of trials for the Constitutional Court.
For the first time, the court was subjected to the simultaneous process of constitutional judges, and for the first time, the tribunal no longer has international judges in its composition. The contribution of recently removed judges, who were simultaneously part of the first generation of constitutional judges, was essential and extremely valuable for establishing the foundations of the Constitutional Court in the country and for institutional development of the Constitutional Court”, Rama Hajrizi said.
It has added that combating crime and corruption continues to be a challenge for the country's institutions. Where, as she said, the Constitutional Court has an important role in this privilege.
Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has estimated that the Constitutional Court is among the most important but most successful institutions in Kosovo.
“Independence, integrity, professionalism, the vision that the Constitutional Court has shown, since its establishment, are exemplary for all. These virtues are a model for other institutions, how the state should be employed and protected. The Constitutional Court must continue to play a role in the protection of the Constitution and its final interpretation. By defending the constitutional order, you protect the state of Kosovo, you preserve the foundations of our state. The rule of law in general is one of the basic principles on which we have built Kosovo state and society”, President Thaci has said, and has added that thanks to professionalism, the Constitutional Court is now operating with local courts.
Present at the ceremony was Venice Commission Chairman Gianni Buquicchio, who said it is a pleasure to be present at the 9th year footnote of the Constitutional Court, adding that the latter is a guarantor for the rule of law.
The Constitutional Court is a guarantor, constitutional order, it is more important that this court carry out its duty effectively. Mrs. Chairman, the commission will always remain a supporter of the Constitutional Court and encourages their establishment in all states where there is no such thing. The establishment of the Constitutional Court is a historic event because we have observed during the time that constitutional courts advocate a constitutional stability and advocate democracy. Human rights are one of the central tasks of the Constitutional Court, they are the basis of true democracy”, Buquicchio said.
According to him, the Venice Commission has noted over the years that some constitutional courts in the world have been pressured and threatened. In such cases, he said that as chairman of the Venice Commission, he has been exiled to these countries as: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Poland, Ukraine, Turkey, and many other countries.
