40,000 fans present at the HDI Arena saw a three-year-old trumpet with the defender who scored for the last time in the green field.
Claudei Pizarro, Torsten Frings and Kyeran Gibbs were some of the names that participated in the organised retirement match for the former Arsenal Player.
As the match reached 89th minute, 34-year-old left the field before being replaced by his father, leaving Mertseker in tears.
