Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri has said that Kosovo still has much work to do in improving the justice sector, but has added that there is hope that justice in Kosovo has a future.

Addressing counterparts at the EU-Western Ministry Forum for Justice and Home Affairs, organised by the Austrian Presidency of the European Union Council, which is being held in Tirana, Tahiri stressed that the entire region is closing the transition and is making progress especially in improving the justice sector.

“As Kosovo Justice Minister, I am fully aware that we need to improve the quality of justice. So I have taken important steps and important legal reforms to increase access to justice, efficiency, transparency and accountability of the justice sector”, Tahiri said.

According to the announcement, Tahiri has cited concrete legal changes made during a year of his mandate. According to him, changes in this sector are expected to be made even through the undertaken reform of the Functional Review of Law Rule Sector, as well as joint agenda with the Judicial and Prosecutorial Council, “Command 2020”.

The “Reforms we have undertaken give us hope that our justice has a future and we are committed to seeing this future happen now. But we still have a lot to do. Reality sometimes does not follow us the way we expect. Many polls show that citizens sometimes do not believe in the judiciary, as the most important pillar of the justice system. So with these reforms we have proved that we are willing to face these challenges, to advance rule of law, fight corruption and organised crime, improve access to justice and enable good judicial services to our citizens”, he has declared.
