Ann Hodges was 34 years old when on November 30th, 1954, he was hit by a meteor weighing at least 4kg. The Meteori first hit the roof of her house in Alabama's Sylacauga, U.S.A.

At that time the woman was taking a nap in bed. Hodges suffered a hematoma, as reported in the Smithsonic article that revived history from the article “Life” on December 13, 1954.

This article caused a strong legal battle between the Hodges family and the owner who had rented the residence where the unusual event took place.

The Legal Battle

That is the least familiar part of the story. Shortly after the incident came the dispute over ownership of the precious stone. A year later, the owner of the house faced a court of tenants Ann Hodges and her husband with the claim that the meteor belonged to him because he fell on his property. The case dragged on for a while until the householder gave up claims on taking the meteor.

Meanwhile, interest in the space object had also dropped. He no longer had the same monetary value on the market. No one was interested in adopting it anymore, and the same Hodges ended up using it as a door locker that kept it open. Later she donated it to the Museum of Natural History in Alabama, where it is preserved today. With little fuss, a neighbor had actually managed to make a small piece of meteor that had fallen near his property. The man bought a house and a car.
The Bitter End
History had an even more sad ending for Hodges. It seems that legal problems and disappointment to be unable to take advantage in some way of the extraordinary event led to psychological and physical problems. The woman divorced her husband and died in 1972 of kidney complications.

Unbelievable but True

That her story is a rare thing, there is no doubt here. The possibility of being hit by a meteor and even more living is indeed minimal: 1 in a million and 600 thousand people is an almost never - ending possibility. There was talk of an incident in India in 1825 where a man was killed and injured, but there was no document confirming the truthfulness of the event.
