Serbia's Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic announced today that he has written to all Interpol member states and provided them with political, police and judicial reasons why Kosovo cannot become a member of this organisation, Serbian media report.
Stefanovic cites Resolution 1244 as a legal reason, but even the Resolution of Interpol itself, under which its member may only be the one who is a member or observer in the United Nations, while Kosovo is neither a member nor an observer. He has cited Palestine's admission, which is an observer at the UN.
Political reasons, Stefanovic has mentioned that Kosovo is part of Serbia and that dialogue is currently under way on status terms, while Kosovo's accession would violate that status.
If you hold Pristina's side, you are against Belgrade, since Belgrade has clear indicators that Kosovo would use Interpol membership to file charges against Serb soldiers and police officers.
Serbian Interior Minister has mentioned that Kosovo, even now, through UNMIK has contact with Interpol and can do research on all databases and see the charges.
Membership, according to him, Kosovo wants it not to fight criminality, but as evidence of independence, it broadcasts Koha.net.
The Interpol General Assembly takes place from November 18th to November 21st 2018 in Dubai, recalls Koha.net.
