Haradinaj: Let Vasfiye's Courage Be Guide to Victims of Sexual Violence

Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj has stressed that Vasfije Krasniqi's courage should be a guide for numerous victims of sexual violence during the war, to rise above the pain and with their testimony to document the crime, to dominate justice.

Vasfije Krasniqi is the first Albanian to have spoken publicly about the sexual violence she has experienced during wartime, at the age of only 16. It has been sexually violated by two Serbs, a police officer and a civilian in the village of Babmost in Vushtrri.

After listening carefully to the touching and encouraging confession of Vasfije Krasniqi, I commend this courageous woman who has decided to talk openly about one of the greatest plagues of our people. Let her courage be a guide to the numerous victims of sexual violence during the war, to rise above pain and with their testimony document the crime, to gain justice. Together, encouraging victims and their families, we will remove the stigmatization that has weighed so many years on them.
