This is after the government has decided to lower the 70 percent writing test threshold to 50 percent.
This government cabinet decision, broadcasts kp, was taken following Public Administration Minister Mahir Jagcilar's request, which has demanded that this threshold be lowered for members of the Turkish community after only one has managed to reach 70 points in the writing test.
“Allow me to submit the request by representatives of the Turkish community in terms of admission into police service, respectively, that the 70 per cent threshold be reduced to 50 per cent, because of all candidates that have applied only one has passed this first phase of testing, for various reasons, but primarily because of not pledging Albanian”, Yagcilar said.
But the minister's request coming from the Turkish community has seen those who are not Turks, but who belong to other non-Albanian communities.
This was after Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj proposed that such a thing be applied not only to Turks but also to other communities.
“Did we have enough to vote for, for example, this, for communities that do not have Albanian language”, Haradinaj said.
Against the proposal has come Deputy Prime Minister Dardan Gashi, who said anyone who wants to become a policeman should know Albanian.
We can't work this way. The official language is Albanian and is a majority language, the police should know Albanian”, Gashi said.
But in this statement, Prime Minister Haradinaj has reacted, who said police need people who know Turkish as well.
We need policemen who know Turkish. That's mutual interest. It's not that he stole us, we love him. It is a practice allowed to make a positive discrimination. I had invited Government to vote on Minister Jagcilar”'s proposal, the prime minister stressed.
According to Haradinaj, this does not conflict with civil law, as lowering the criteria for that part implies only opportunities to enter other procedures.
Minister Jagcilar's recommendation was approved by majority of votes.
