German giant pulls 100,000 cars off the market

After Volkswagen, Audi, Daimler, and BMW, Opel also ends up in the eye of the German Justice Cyclone, extending the list of automotive producers involved in the Dieselgate scandal.
On the same day, the autohouse in Rjeselheim has received two shocks: the prosecution commissioned a search at the mall this morning, while in the afternoon authorities have announced the withdrawal of 100,000 vehicles from the market.
The news has made it known to Germany's Transport Ministry, referring to oil car models allegedly installed a software to trick gas emissions, Respublica reports.
Throughout Europe it is thought that there are 950,000 tools involved in this scan, particularly models “Zephire”, the Cassada of Insignia.
The Opel headquarters in Russellheim and Kaiserslautern were subjected today to raids by 33 public officials co-ordinated by the Frankfurt Prosecutor.
“We are investigating fraud regarding the marketing of diesel cars with software that manipulates gas download values”, prosecutor Nadja Niesen in Handelsblat has confirmed.
The investigation originated in 2015, when the Federal Office, at the Department of the Ministry of Transport, ordered the first checks.
Early in 2018, this office authorized checkups, but they have been postponed several times for technical reasons.
Opel, which was bought a year ago by the French PSA group insist that its cars are in line with regulations. At this moment, we cannot comment on the details surrounding the ongoing investigation, the company is co-operating with the authorities.
Opel points out that its vehicles are in line with the norms and laws in force”.
