While Canadians are preparing to legalize cannabis consumption this week, 24 students are the first to learn how to grow the plant in a vase.
Canada will become the first industrialized country to legalise the recreative use of cannabis, starting on Wednesday.
Thus, a campaign promise is fulfilled by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Liberals, who had argued that the plant would be cultivated in pots by the hands of minor users and thus reduced connection with crime.
In light rooms with controlled temperature at the University of Ontario, Niagara, there are 50 clones of cannabis, of which students are learning how to feed, water, protect, tie codes and test for chemical content.
“They are learning that cannabis needs light similar to the crisis and irrigation similar to pepper tomatoes. They are also learning from a business point of view, as they are being informed of the costs of cultivating this plant”, said programme coordinator Bill MacDonald. /tch/
