BMW Development Board member Klaus Frehlih stressed that the bavarese company does not intend to give up oil engines after the explosion of the relationship “Dieselgate” in Volkswagen, which is why many producers are focused on developing gasoline and electrification.
The latest example is German Porsche, who decided to remove oil engines from their cars. However, BMW does not have similar goals, but claims to have better oil engines on offer.
Until the four-and-six-certical diesel engine for now has a secure future, the most powerful M550d Xdrive unit is questioned. This 3,0-liter quad-turbo is considered the most powerful six-cendre dyzel in industry, but is threatened by increasingly strict environmental standards.
BMW announced that the diesel engine could be reduced to a simple choice, and unit 3. 0-litra instead of single, duo or quad-turbo configuration can stand on just one.
Meanwhile, BMW has not decided yet whether to offer an oil engine to X5 in the US, as it is currently available only in 40i and 50 Xdive gasoline, while hybrid plow is being prepared for 2021.
