French police conducted a search of the environments of a Muslim club in the country's north and the club members' homes in an antiterrorist operation.
In the objective of the operation, which included about 200 police officers, a club known as “Centre Zahra Frans” and its 12 members in the Grand St. area, near Denkerk, near Kale, on France's northern coast.
A security source told AFP that 11 people were arrested, while French authorities also froze financial assets of the centre led by Yahia Gouasmi, known for his anti-sionist views and ties to Iran.
Police have closely followed the activities of the Zahra “Centre due to strong support from its leaders for several terrorist organisations and in favour of movements supporting ideas contrary to France's”.
On its page, the association says its purpose since its establishment in 2009 has been “to make known the message of Islam with the eyes of the Prophet and his family”.
It was not clear whether today's arrests were linked to an alleged plot in France to drop bombs at a meeting of the Iranian opposition group at Iran's National Resistance Council (NCRI) in June
