You can also read the personal impressions and the source of ideas on this project, which according to the director reflects a painful reality for Albanians.
Matthew Brown: I spent a lot of time looking deep into Albanian culture and realized that if I made a movie about Albany Gangster, I would have to meet the right guys. So I met 1015 people like onions until I met this guy, John. From the first day we met, it was the craziest day. So we stayed together for two years, two or three days a week as a married man. During our time for recreation, I realized that just a month before the shoot, I felt like I was missing something. The scenario was inspired by real events. What I did was tie them together well to make a nice movie. So I collected materials and turned them towards this crazy psychopath who's here next to me. That's how we made the movie. We automatically improvised the whole dialogue.
John Rezaj: When we shot, we threw the script. It was all spontaneous. We've been together so long, I know everything.
Meanwhile, the sound column of this film will be seven songs of the Albanian rap king Unikatil. The director has discovered why he chose this artist.
Matthew Brown: Because I met UnikaI before I met John. From him, we met each other in Los Angeles. The craziest thing is that when I was writing the movie, I was looking for elements that went deep into the Albanian human soul and feelings, and so I found in YouTube the songs of Unicatorial. So a guy who played in the movie told me, or you heard Unikatil, he's known in Albania. He said you can meet him after we keep in touch. This is my music, I'll give you seven songs.
During the conversation, Mathew explained that readings of crimes and mafia made it bring a film just for Albanian gangsters.
Matthew Brown: Because I was reading about the arrests of 2000, and I thought I found gold for the cinema. It wasn't just about violence, it was about connections like Kanun, Besa. The worst thing in this culture is being a spy.
