A court in Iraq has sentenced a German woman of descent from Morocco to death after she had joined the extremist group, Islamic State (IS).
Judiciary spokesman Abdul-Sattar Bayrkdar has said today that the German woman has been sentenced after having been participating in attacks against security forces and has offered assistance in the logistics of this militant group.
The woman whose name has not been disclosed may apply to a higher court regarding the verdict.
She was caught by Iraqi forces in a battle for Mosul last year, Bayrkdar said, adding that she knew she was joining the IS after traveling from Germany to Syria and later to Iraq, along with her two daughters.
The two girls later married the militants.
Iraqi forces have banned a number of foreign women until they have removed IS fighters from the territory they once controlled in northern Iraq and central Iraq.
