Greek Defence Minister Panos Kamenos' attempt to enter the Kardak Aegean Sea region on a warship and donate a bunch of flowers to the memorial dedicated to three Greek soldiers who died during the 1996 crisis has not gone as predicted.
He has been warned from the Turkish side to leave the territory and has not been allowed to continue along with the warship.
According to Turkey's Interior Ministry, they warned Panos Kamenos as it lay 3.5 miles off the coast of Bodrum on Turkish territory.
Following the warning, the Greek ship left Turkey's territorial waters without another incident, Ankara authorities added.
The tense situation comes as the islands Turkey recognises by the name of Kardak, but Greece, by the name of Imia, are some uninhabited rocks in the Aegean Sea, and there has still been a decades-old dispute between Turkey and Greece.
