North Korea has agreed with South Korea's bid to hold talks next week, in what will be the first high-level contact between the two countries for more than two years.
The first talks since December 2015 will be held in Panmunjom, a village that is the demilitarised area (DMZ) between the two countries and comes amid international concerns about ballistic programmes and gynian nuclear programmes, reports the Guardian”, broadcast Periscopi.
Discussions, to be held at the Peace House on the South Korean side of Panmunjom, will initially focus on possible participation in North Korea at next month's Winter Olympics in the South Korean town of Pyongchang.
But officials whose identities have not yet been confirmed will also talk about how to improve general ties after a year in which North Korea has raised tensions in the region with a series of missile concessions, concreteising its sixth and most powerful nuclear test.
Phenani announced that she has accepted the offer of talks in Panmunjom via fax office Friday morning, the South Korean Union Ministry reported.
The two sides decided to discuss national-level issues by exchanging documents,” said Bayk Tae-hyun, a ministry spokesman, at a news conference, according to the news agency “Yonpa”./Periscopi/
