Deputy Prime Minister Enver Hoxhaj has raised the alarm regarding the country's integration into the European Union, saying he has secured a draft of the EU's enlargement strategy, in which Kosovo is not well at all, writes the newspaper Zerjevic today.
On the other hand, opposition MPs, as well as connoisseurs of EU integration issues blame ruling parties for showing immatureness to be worthy EU members until the country implements international agreements, as well as attempts to evade international justice
Kosovo has not yet been set a deadline for when it can join the European Union, while the opposite is happening with neighbouring states.
Furthermore, Kosovo has not yet benefited from the visa liberalisation process with the EU as a result of delays with ratification of the demarcation with Montenegro, as well as the failure to fight corruption and organised crime.
The number two of the Government of Kosovo, former Foreign Minister Enver Hoxhaj, in the government's recent meeting has voiced its concerns about Kosovo's EU membership. Hoxhaj has claimed to have secured a draft of the European Union's enlargement strategy, in which Kosovo is not well at all.
However, European Union officials have set the year 2025 as the deadline for starting the enlargement process, which includes Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Albania, Bosnia and Kosovo to join this Union, but Kosovo has not been assigned conditions and timetables of when such membership will be possible
On the other hand, opposition deputies, as well as connoisseurs of EU integration issues blame ruling parties for showing immatureness to be worthy EU members until they implement international agreements, as well as trying to evade international justice. They even blame former Prime Minister Hoxhaj for the country's failure to make a distant future part of the EU, just like neighbouring countries.
Hoxhaj: Kosovo not well on road to EU
Deputy Prime Minister Enver Hoxhaj, during the government's recent meeting, has said he has secured a draft of the European Union's enlargement strategy, in which Kosovo has no good.
Kosovo's “Only conditions are not offered, nor deadlines, so we risk implementing the SAA next year as a unilateral process”, Hoxha has said.
He has also stressed that since clear deadlines towards EU membership are ahead of Serbia-Montenegro, no such thing has happened for Kosovo. The same thing about Kosovo is not said. If we meet the internal criteria and apply the SAA, the question is: In what form would we be rewarded?”, Kosovo's deputy prime minister said.
Matoshi: EU membership also hinges on international political circumstances
Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj's media adviser, Halil Matoshi, has told “Zerin” that Kosovo has begun to implement its first contractual agreement with the EU. According to him, Kosovo's EU membership depends also on international political circumstances. Kosovo has begun full implementation of the SAA since the first day, then working on rule of law as well as other aspects. So Kosovo must do its jobs, homework. When it will be a member or when it will retain candidate status, as well as membership in the EU, it will not always depend on Kosovo, but also on political and international circumstances”, he has said.
