In 2001, journalist Bashkim Fazliu had gone, to the quality of the journalist for the Serbian edition, on the second channel of Radio Kosovo, Radio Blue Sky, to convey a protest in northern Mitrovica. Meanwhile, he and his colleague had been attacked by the “Overviews of”, an illegal formation led by Oliver Ivanovi himself, who was killed days ago. Fazliu had been severely beaten (even though he carried a Serbian-named ID card, for easy work) and had escaped only because of KFOR's intervention at the last moment.
Bashkim Fazliu, by means of a writing, has related his experience in 2001 in northern Mitrovica, where he had almost escaped from the hands of Oliver Ivanovic's gang. Fazliu has shown that the terror that was being experienced during and after the war in the north was a complete product of the criminal gangs Oliver led, which is now being described as a moderate and cooperative politician with Albanians after the murder.

I will write it in English, so my friends in Kosovo and Serbia can read it and understand my personal experience for something that nearly killed me and that many years later killed a person whose funeral is in Belgrade today.
Seventeen years ago, I was badly beaten by the faction of Oliver Ivanovic, the person who was killed two days ago in Mitrovica and is being buried in Belgrade today. I'm sorry for his death and I want this case resolved as soon as possible, and I want those who committed this murder arrested. It's shocking that a man, a politician, was killed in a political and/or criminal assassination. This is terrible, and we need to have answers as soon as possible. But was he a good “one”, “modern politician”, “thinker”? In my opinion and based on my personal experience, he wasn't. He was the leader of a paramilitary faction during and after the war. In 2001, I was working as a journalist for the Serbian edition, on the second Radio Kosovo channel, Radio Blue Sky. While I was doing my job, reporting for a protest in Mitrovica on the north side of the bridge, my colleague, Mitrovica radio correspondent, and I was attacked by the “Roses of Bridge”, a paramilitary group that controlled Mitrovica North for a long time. One of the leaders of this group was Oliver Ivanovic. Since I was working on Serbia's radio edition, I had a fake ID card. My fake name was Danijel Ivanovic (I hoped that wearing this surname would be easier to do my job, since it corresponded to Oliver). Since they thought I was a Serb, they first attacked Enver Bajram, who later became an editor at RTK. Beating him, they tried to put him in a car, the Red Opel Vecra, which suddenly appeared 10 meters from the central bridge. Something happened to my head, and I decided to jump into the crowd, pushed one of the bandits, and held the other, until Enver managed to escape to the checkpoint of the French KFOR on the bridge, who did not want or dare to help us, even though everything happened to their noses. Enver says that I had saved his life because when people put them in the car or kidnapped them at that time, you would normally be dead later.
I remember that after Enver left, the bandits surrounded me, so I couldn't leave. They took iron bars and beat me until I lost my feelings by saying “You're protecting Albanian”. Finally, as told me, NATO soldiers took me and the bandits crossed the street, which saved my life and then sent me to the military hospital near Vushtrri.
This regime of fear and violence that Oliver Ivanovic had helped shape still exists in the northern part of Kosovo. Oliver died in an environment he himself had fed. He's the victim of a regime he was part of. He has also been part of Slobodan Milosevic's Socialist Party of Serbia. Ivanovic has been a participant of all policies implemented in Kosovo before, during and after the war, being politically and militarily active. I regret how he had led his life. I feel sorry for all the victims of his policy and the victims of his factions. All of this came back and killed Oliver as well. The great tragedy that that ideology and that hate is still taking people's lives. Rest in peace Oliver, as you deserve, as a human being. Too bad your killers and you won't be responsible for what you did. Hopefully you're the last victim of the crazy principle you've had.
