Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister Enver Hoxhaj has held meetings with five ambassadors, where he has expressed his concern for Kosovo's approach to the European Union strategy in the Balkans.
Hoxhaj has hosted the ambassador of France, Italy, Austria, Slovenia and Croatia, who have expressed concern about the EU's approach to the Enlargement Strategy, which will be published in early February.
Hoxhaj has said Kosovo needs clear perspective on its integration path. He has added that language in this document is general as far as Kosovo is concerned and does not provide criteria or timeframes for moving Kosovo on the road to EU integration.
At the same time, in the divided meetings Hoxhaj has sought the support of these countries for Kosovo and its European integration, thanks to the current support of Kosovo's statehood, the communiqué sent to the media said.
“Hojaj stressed that Kosovo has the country in the European Union and should be treated equally with other Balkan states in terms of the EU integration process of six Balkan countries”.
On this subject, Hoxhaj has also spoken at today's Kosovo Government meeting, informing colleagues of two confidential versions of this document where access to Kosovo is general and no clear perspective is given regarding criteria and the timeframe for moving forward in the EU integration process.
This document, meanwhile, contains clarity for Serbia and Montenegro's membership until 2025, while there is no clear perspective for the other four Balkan countries.
