Automobile colone, Ford, announced that it will invest $11 billion in electric vehicles over the next five years, doubling its earlier commitment.
President Bill Ford said the company will have 40 hybrid and fully electric models by 2022.
Ford's movement comes as world governments are putting increasing pressure on car producers to reduce pollution.
General Motors, Toyota, Volvo and Volksagen have introduced ambitious plans earlier to offer more electric vehicles.
The Ford company announced that it would focus on the electricity transformation of existing models, but not on names. By 2022, the company will have 16 fully electrical and 24 hybrid models.
Company officials said the goal is to electrify the most popular models of this brand, as that is how the plan will succeed. The media report that one of the affected models appears to be the legendary Mustang, an iconic machine not only in the United States, but worldwide.
It is not known how this movement will be expected from those who are amateurs of American muscles in automobileism, but the future will clearly be electrical.
