The role of foreign services during the communist regime, mainly of the former Yugoslav UDB, KGB and CIA, will be in the focus of the Authority for Information on the documents of the former State Security, during 2018 and following, for research effects and under civic education.
In the Authority's work plan, otherwise known as the commission for file opening, will be the activity of foreign services in the country, activity that will be clarified and taken full shape by opening the former state security files on the issue, as well as by co-operating with international institutions, the Directorate of Archives and historical scholars, writes Albanian.com.
Sources from the Authority clarified that, the enlightenment and study of the activities of foreign services in Albania, includes their collaborators in the country, their numbers and profiles, although data will not be shared with the public.
In this context, the commission's focus will also be the opening of the files of the so-called “cham group, known as one of the most sensational and ruthless processes of former state security.
The group was accused of serving foreign agents.
Secret Service escort Luan Pobrati, who worked for many years in State Security, has confirmed that UDB had spies in Albania.
While former Intelligence Service head Hasan Luci has confirmed that the UDB was sitting cross-border in the middle of the communist regime.
Viron Bezhani, son of Nazif Bezhani, chairman of the renowned commission for verifying senior officials for ties to the former state security, has long stated for Albanians.com that a former SHIK employee, later employed at the Albanian Embassy in Belgium, has kidnapped and eliminated the files of Albanian politicians and authorities, associate of the former Yugoslavia's UDB and other agents. Bezhani has clarified that the event occurred during the first rule of the Democratic Party.
“Out of 73 disks that have been stolen, 56 have been with information involving politicians and senior authorities as foreign service agents. Besides the disks, files and secret service information have disappeared, while the brain was stolen from the SHIK archive and lists and with the names of UDB associates in Albania. Their theft was discovered in the spring of 1997. They have disappeared at the time of the ruling Democratic Party.
The man was an employee of the National Intelligence Service. When the commission started work, documentation was requested. The entire SHIK gathered to look for disks. The employee escaped. He was then employed at the Albanian Embassy in Brussels. As far as the date is concerned, I have to look at the paperwork to be precise. I know that Father has made a complaint to the prosecutor about the theft of disks, which were sold and the suspected robbery person has left Albania shortly after the disappearance of the disks and lives, as far as I can remember, in Belgium”, Bezhani has confirmed.
> Even today there are politicians who are accused of their connections to the UDB.
Among them has been charged with Sali Berisha, but the most obvious case is Flamur Noka, whose case the TemA newspaper had missed months ago.
Noka has been held in the 1990s in Yugoslav prisons, and after being asked to co-operate with the UDB, has been released.
